Abama Golf

Pick it for the gradient and the sea, not for an easy walk.

FAQ

Can visitors play Abama Golf without staying at the resort?

Yes, the course sells green fees to outside players. Guests staying on the estate normally pay less and get easier tee times, so the price you are quoted depends on which you are, and it is worth saying up front when you book.

How hilly is the course at Abama?

Considerably. It is laid out on ground rising from the coast towards the mountain, so there is real elevation between tee and green on several holes. A buggy is the normal choice here rather than a luxury.

Who designed Abama Golf?

Dave Thomas, the Welsh player and course architect. The routing makes use of the slope instead of flattening it, which is what gives the course its character and its views out over the water.

Where is Abama Golf on the island?

On the west coast near Playa San Juan, between the southern resorts and Los Gigantes. It is around half an hour from Costa Adeje by road and further from the airport, so allow more time than the distance suggests.

What languages does the club deal in?

Spanish, English, French and German are all published, which reflects where its players come from. A booking made in any of them should reach the same tee sheet.

When is the best time of year to play here?

The island's winter is the golf season, which is the reverse of northern Europe. Temperatures on this coast stay mild from November to April, and that is also when tee times are hardest to get at short notice.
