FAQ
What is the advantage of a private group?
Time at the telescope. On a shared trip a large group shares a few instruments, so each person gets a short look. A private departure removes the queue and lets the guide follow what your group is interested in.
Where does the trip go?
Up into Teide National Park, which sits above the cloud layer and under a sky protected by the Canary Islands lighting law. The exact viewing spot depends on conditions on the night.
What will I actually see?
That depends on the season and the moon. Planets, the Milky Way, star clusters and nebulae are the usual programme, and a guide with a laser pointer is often more useful than the telescope for orientation.
How long does it take?
An evening. Collection from the southern resorts, the climb, sunset, the astronomy session and the drive back put most of these trips at five to seven hours door to door.
Where is Chayofa?
Above Los Cristianos on the southern slope, a few minutes inland from the resort strip. Collections are normally from hotels along the coast rather than from the base.
What should I wear?
Winter clothing regardless of the month. It is a mountain at night at over 2,000 metres, and people who leave a warm coast in summer clothes spend the session cold rather than looking up.
