FAQ
What are the Acantilados de Los Gigantes?
A wall of sea cliffs on the western coast, in places over five hundred metres from the water to the top. They are the western edge of the Teno massif, one of the oldest parts of the island.
Where exactly is the viewpoint?
On the descent towards Puerto Santiago, at a bend in the road with space to pull in. It is signposted and easy to miss if you are watching the traffic rather than the signs.
Is it better than seeing the cliffs from a boat?
Different. From above you get the scale and the line of them; from the water you get the height. Doing both in a day is straightforward, since the boats leave from directly below.
Is there parking?
A pull-in rather than a car park. It fills in the middle of the day when the coach traffic is moving, and there is little room to wait for a space on a bend.
How long is the drive from the south?
Around forty-five minutes from Playa de las Américas along the coast road. It is the natural stop on a day heading for Los Gigantes or Masca.
Is it worth going at a particular time?
Late afternoon, when the sun is in the west and lighting the rock face rather than behind it. In the morning the cliffs are in their own shadow.
