FAQ

What can you see from Mirador de Chipeque?

Teide rising out of the cloud, with the northern slope falling away below. The viewpoint usually sits above the inversion layer, so the view is down onto the top of the cloud rather than through it.

When is the best time to go?

Late afternoon into sunset, when the light comes across the top of the cloud. It is busiest then for the same reason, so arriving early enough to park is worth planning.

How do I get there?

On the road climbing from Santa Úrsula on the northern coast towards La Esperanza and the crater. It is about forty minutes up from Puerto de la Cruz and considerably longer from the southern resorts.

Is there anything there?

No. It is a parking area beside a mountain road with a view, and that is the whole of it. Take whatever you want to drink with you.

Is the drive difficult?

Not technically, but it is long, continuous and on a mountain road. Coming back down after dark is the part to think about, particularly if cloud has moved in while you were watching the sun.

Will it be cold?

Colder than the coast by a noticeable margin, and colder again once the sun goes. People arrive from a warm beach in shorts and regret it within twenty minutes.
