FAQ
Where is it?
In Playa de las Américas, the biggest resort on the southern coast. Most of the accommodation there is within walking distance, which is the whole point of a shop in that position.
Is a resort gift shop good value?
It is convenient rather than cheap. The rents on that strip are high and the prices reflect it, which is the trade for being able to walk there in ten minutes.
What is worth buying as a present from Tenerife?
Wine, mojo sauces, gofio and palm honey are the island-made answers. Ceramics and embroidery are the craft ones. Everything else is available in any resort anywhere.
Can I take food and wine in hand luggage?
Wine and sauces are liquids, so they go in the hold. Gofio, cheese and packaged goods are fine either way. Worth planning before the last afternoon rather than at the gate.
Where would I find better?
The northern towns, where shops stocking only Canarian production exist. That needs a day and a car, which is why the resort shops do the trade they do.
Are the shops open on Sundays?
In the resort areas, generally yes, because that is when a large share of the arrivals and departures happen. Inland and in the north the pattern is more traditional.
